A rumour has been locally rife that the proposed date for the resumption of forecourt fuel services in Aberfeldy has been pegged back to occur only with the final completion of the building works on the new Co-op store on Dunkeld Street.
GaragepumpsWebThe supposed setback has been attributed to Health & Safety stipulations related to the current construction works on site. Widespread consternation among businesses and traders in the town and throughout the community at large prompted P&K Ward 4 C’llr Ian Campbell to pursue the issue.
Niall Smith, the Local Authority's Trading Standards Officer/Petroleum Officer, assured the councillor: ‘Further to the rumours...I have had confirmation from the contractors, Williams (Southern) Ltd that the site is due to open on the 18 June.
‘The main works on the site are due to be finished by the 16th, with only the commissioning and qualification of the dispensers to be done from that date. I will keep you informed if I hear of any changes to these dates.’

Minimising Delay
Garageprogres1WebA spokesperson for The Co-operative Food said: “We realise how important the petrol station is locally, and would like to apologise to customers for the inconvenience the current unavoidable closure, due to essential maintenance work including replacement of fuel storage tanks, is causing.
“We are working hard to keep any delay to a minimum, and are committed to ensuring that the petrol station re-opens to serve the community as soon as possible.
“The maintenance work has been designed in such a way as to allow us to re-open to serve fuel while work continues to complete our new store, which will be the centrepiece of a £700,000 investment to transform the Dunkeld Street site.
“Unfortunately, at this stage we are unable to confirm a re-opening date for the filling station, although we hope to be able to do so in the next few weeks.”
